In the Gallery foyer there are two halls. The Auditorium Hall has about 2,700 sq ft of floor area and has a hanging wall space of approximately 180 running feet. The Exhibition Gallery has a climate control with electronic security system. The floor area is of about 3,700 sq ft and has a hanging wall space of about 370 running feet. This gallery is normally divided into three sections. Number One First Gallery has 101 running feet of hanging space. Number Two Gallery has 154 running feet of hanging space and Number Three Gallery has 115 running feet of hanging space. The gallery may be hired in full or section-wise.

Hirji Jehangir Gallery is situated on the first floor of the Jehangir Art Gallery it has a floor area of about 1, 408 sq. ft. and has a hanging wall space of about 173 running feet.

The Terrace Gallery for photography and Visual Art is situated on the Terrace of the Jehangir Art Gallery and has a floor area of about 650 sq. ft. and hanging wall space of about 130 running feet.

All the Galleries:

  1. On the expiry of the period of booking an account shall be made of the electric power consumed and other incidental charges, which shall be deducted from the deposit. Balance, if any, shall be refunded to the applicant; if the amount is in excess the applicant shall pay the due amount within 15 days from the receipt of the bill, incase of default no further booking will be allotted.
  2. If at any time it comes to the notice of the Gallery administration that the applicant has made false statements or is likely to transgress any of the rules and regulations relating to the booking of the Gallery, the permission granted to the applicant shall be cancelled forthwith. In such instance, the Gallery will not be liable to refund any fees already paid by the applicant. The decision of the Gallery administration in this respect shall be binding on the applicant.
  3. The applicant shall not give, transfer, submit or relet any portion of the Gallery or its furniture and fixtures to any other person or organisation. The Committee shall be entitled to remove forthwith any such transferee, and shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever.
  4. All programmes and procedures conducted by the applicant shall be orderly and lawful. If the Committee apprehends unruly or unlawful behaviour it shall immediately take suitable action and shall not be responsible either for the refund of the fees or for any loss or damage arising therefrom. The Committee also has the right to secure help of police authorities to restore order and to assist the gallery administration to maintain peace.
  5. Any member of the Committee or Gallery staff or any person authorised by the committee shall have full authority to enter any part of the Gallery during its use by the applicant.
  6. The applicant shall obtain an entertainment License and will also be responsible for the entertainment tax, if applicable for the programme organised by him. The Gallery does not hold itself responsible for the non-compliance of this rule in any manner.
  7. The applicant shall also make arrangements with the police authorities if their help is needed for their programmes and shall bear the cost thereof fully.
  8. The applicant shall not bring in any furniture, screens, lights or any other equipment from outside without prior permission from the Gallery administration. They shall not entrust the work for changing the position of lights or other repairs, if necessary, to any outside party.
  9. The Gallery shall provide pedestals, chairs, tables, potted plants and public address system with an operator, if required by the applicant, at the rates stipulated.
  10. The Committee reserves the right to remove any exhibit or exhibits from the Gallery if in its opinion they are found to be obscene or objectionable in any manner, or are not within the scope of the purpose mentioned in the application.
  11. The Gallery does not hold itself responsible for the security of the material brought by the applicant into the premises of the Gallery.
  12. The timing of the exhibition shall be 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
  13. The period of occupation granted to an applicant for the Gallery will be counted from 7.00 a.m. of the first day and 10.00 p.m. on the last day. No exception to this rule will be made unless a prior permission from the administration is obtained. The applicant shall not use the gallery after 7 p.m. on any day without prior permission, except on the last day of a show, for the purpose of winding up.
  14. The applicant shall not drive nails, use drawing pins, celotape or any other adhesive substance on the walls, screens doors and pedestals of the gallery and shall not soil or disfigure any part of the building or furniture in any manner; nor shall he/she remove furniture or any other article from the Gallery. The applicant shall have to repair the damage, if any, before he/she removes the exhibits, or shall fully compensate the expenses incurred by the Gallery for necessary repairs. The assessment made by the Gallery administration of the damage shall be final and binding on the applicant.
  15. If the Gallery is to be closed for reasons beyond its control, such as, strikes, natural calamity or special government notification; no refund of rent will be made by the Gallery. If however, the management decides to close the Gallery, either it will give another day in lieu of the closed day or will refund the fee for the day.
  16. The rules are subject to alteration and modification at any time at the discretion of the Committee of Management.

The Gallery administration regrets that it has no storage space and, therefore, the exhibits cannot be stored in the Gallery after the show.


  1. Paintings should be hung as per prescribed practice. Use of tapes and other adhesives for displaying any materials on the walls and screens is forbidden.
  2. Hand gloves should be used while hanging and removing paintings. Shabby marks if found on the wall, the user of the gallery will be penalised and an amount to repaint the wall will be collected from the user.
  3. The lighting system consists of halogen lamps and track system with dimmers. These systems cover a great deal of flexibility. Lights will be adjusted only by gallery electricians after the display work is over.
  4. The Gallery administration will be responsible for cleaning the Gallery after the display of exhibits. The Gallery administration does not hold itself responsible to give any assistance for the removal, display or storage of exhibits.
  5. The Gallery shall provide pedestals, chairs, tables, potted plants and public address system with an operator, if required by the applicant, at the rates stipulated.
  6. Chairs should not be kept close to the walls or screens. Minimum distance of six feet should be maintained for placing tables and chairs.
  7. Placement and fixing of screens can be done by gallery personnel only.
  8. Screens should not be used for hanging heavily framed paintings. Only canvases with light wooden frames may be displayed on screens. The secretary must be consulted regarding the hanging of heavy works of art, and his/her decision will be final.
  9. Wooden cases, sculptures etc. should not be dragged on the floor (the nails etc. damage and scratch the flooring materials). Therefore at all times, a trolley with rubber wheels should be used. (The trolley is available in the gallery)
  10. No materials (display boards, tables, chairs etc.) should be placed in front of the Fire Exit door and the AC plant room door.
  11. The timing of the exhibition shall be 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
  12. Additional charges for parties if any after 7 p.m. till 9 p.m. will be Rs. 5000/-The amount to be deposited in the office before the commencement of the Exhibition.
  13. The Gallery permits to serve only champagne and wine during opening functions but necessary permission to be obtained from the excise department.
  14. The Gallery administration regrets that it has no storage space and, therefore, the exhibits cannot be stored in the gallery after the show.
